Ecosub 2 -- ten times better

The transplanting of seagrass sods is set to go ten times faster with the development of a new seagrass turf-cutter -- Ecosub 2.
With input from Murdoch's seagrass rehabilitation research team in the design work, the new machine is being built by Ocean Industries Pty Ltd.
Ecosub 2 will take sods twice the size of those in the current operation and replant them at ten times the rate.
Instead of the one machine (Ecosub 1) cutting, transporting and replanting the sods, the new system will have a separate harvesting and transporting machines combined with a separate transporting vessel.
The $350,000 machine will start testing and operation in May 1999.
