NAB makes big rural vet commitment

Veterinary services in rural WA are set to benefit from a $240,000 contribution from the National Australia Bank to Murdoch's Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences.
The money will pay for two new research positions and professional development workshops for rural-based vets.
      The two research positions are:
  • a post doctoral research fellowship position in equine medicine; and
  • a PhD scholarship researching the production of high quality prime lamb.
Vet Division staff member Dr Sharanne Raidal will take up the fellowship in mid-1999. Her research will focus on horse respiratory and exercise physiology and foal medicine -- topics of great interest to Australia's multi-million dollar bloodstock industry.
Executive Dean of the Division, Professor John Yovich said that funding from industry, like the NAB commitment, was essential for Murdoch to continue to provide world-class veterinary research and animal health services to the public.
General Manager of NAB, Mr Trevor Hunt, said his company was proud to support the work of Murdoch's vet school and its activities that were benefiting rural Western Australia.
