CRC beefed up

Murdoch is part of an expanded $60 million national cooperative research centre for the beef industry.
Murdoch and Agriculture WA join the Universities of New England, Adelaide and Melbourne, the CSIRO, a number of state primary industry departments, and industry organisations, all collaborating on essential research for the industry.
The big financial input from the federal government to the revamped CRC for Cattle and Beef Quality is a major investment in beef research and is expected to bolster the struggling beef sector.
The Director of the CRC, Professor Bernie Bindon, said the new CRC would help improve the profitability of the Australian beef sector and guarantee increased export earnings for Australia.
The work at Murdoch University and Agriculture WA will focus on beef quality relevant to the WA environment.
Northern pastoral companies, including some from WA, are significant sponsors of the new CRC and they will help us address live-cattle export issues peculiar to the western environment.
