‘Excellent’ Centre

Murdoch’s Environmental Technology Centre has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence.
The new status attracts State Government funding of $370,000.
This follows formal recognition of the centre by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the Asia-Pacific region’s International Regional Environmental Technology Centre — one of only five regional centres in the world.
The government money will go towards upgrading the research infrastructure and management of the centre to meet UNEP standards, in particular a wet laboratory, industry exhibition area, rooms for researchers and a three-year base salary for a research manager.
Other funds and in-kind support worth $700,000 from the University and industry form part of the successful package.
