New marine centre finishedThe construction workers have finished and the researchers have moved in to Murdoch's new, $750,000 marine research centre at Fremantle.
"This is a frontline research facility," said Murdoch's Programme Chair of Marine Science Dr Eric Paling. Already he has moved part of his team of researchers in from the Murdoch-based Marine and Fresh Water Research Laboratory, who are busy checking harbour samples for introduced marine pests. The ocean-side, first-floor marine centre sits next to TAFE's college on the South Mole. The new centre will be used for teaching both TAFE and university courses. Professor Tony Tate, Murdoch's Executive Dean of Science and Engineering, said the centre provided the university with a first-class facility right on the water. "We are sharing the infrastructure with TAFE and building valuable linkages between TAFE and the university for the future," he said. Related articles
