THANKS to Brogan Bunt, you will soon be able to travel to Halfeti, a small town in Turkey, by simply clicking a button. He is creating a virtual tour of this little town, where you can guide yourself through alleys, into shops and hear what the local people have to say. Mr Bunt is working on this rather elaborate art form to experiment with innovative uses of the emerging media. There are a number of emerging forms of media such as the Internet and animation with seemingly limitless potential. I am interested in the way these new forms of media will interact and link with the traditional media, he said. Using combinations of media forms we could create interesting and effective ways to teach and entertain. Mr Bunt already has a project underway with Dr Stephanie Donald from the Murdoch School of Media, Communication and Culture to develop a CD-ROM to teach English to Chinese children. CD-ROMs enable us to develop an educational package with games and sounds to promote learning a language, he said. As well as developing a useful tool, we are interested in investigating the cross-cultural perception of multimedia-based learning. Mr Bunt, who was previously the Head of the Media Programme at the University of Canberra, has recently joined Murdoch University as the Programme Chair in Multimedia Studies. |
