Conference taps into Australian water solutionsIn October, Murdoch University was the principal host for a major international conference on cryptosporidium, the parasite responsible for the infamous Sydney water crises. The six-day conference, held in Fremantle, discussed better ways to detect and remove the parasite from water, and included a debate with a panel of international experts about the inadequacies of Australian water supplies. The impact of the parasite to public health and agriculture was also discussed, as prospects for new therapeutics.
