A new Research Fellowship Program at the Western Australian Biomedical Research Institute (WABRI) destined to significantly boost research into the treatment of diseases such as malaria, cancer and diabetes was launched by the Hon Dr Geoff Gallop MLA, Premier of Western Australia last month.Over the next four years, the $500,000 Fellowship Program funded jointly by WABRI partners Murdoch University and Curtin University of Technology, and by the Macquarie Bank Foundation will support a Senior Research Fellow, three postgraduate scholars and six honours scholars. We are very pleased that Macquarie has joined Curtin and Murdoch University to advance biomedical research in Perth. This Fellowship Program will enable us to attract and retain the best research talent in biotechnology in Western Australia, said Professor Simon Carroll, Director of WABRI. Mr David Clarke, Executive Chairman of Macquarie Bank, said the Bank was proud to support science and technology developments in Western Australia with its $150,000 donation. This is the Foundations first contribution to a program like this in Perth and we are very pleased to support a young organisation like WABRI. Biomedical science has delivered so much in terms of health and well being to our community and this is an important way to assist its ongoing efforts, Mr Clarke said. |
