Green stamp of approval

Businesses will be able to apply for “green” certification for working with sustainable technologies in the future, thanks to a new project underway at the Environmental Technology Centre (ETC).

As a node of the United Nations Environment Programme, the ETC has made a commitment to disseminate information about sustainable technologies.

“First we have to define exactly what sustainable technologies are and define criteria to describe them,” said ETC Director Professor Goen Ho.

“These criteria can set international standards for businesses to apply for green certification which would be assessed by an independent body.”

The ETC will focus on defining sustainable technologies in its areas of research strength: water, permaculture, sustainable construction and renewable resources.

Professor Ho said the industry and government partners of the ETC would play a very important role in this process.
