World leader in mining research

THE AJ Parker Cooperative Research Centre for Hydrometallurgy is the nation’s leading hydrometallurgy R&D organisation.

It has 85 research staff and 45 postgraduate students working on improving the efficiency of Australia’s mineral industry and, therefore, contributes in a practical way to the competitiveness of our largest export earner.

Benefits to the minerals industry of the Centre’s world-class research and education activities are measured by:

  1. the direct dollar savings in operating and capital costs arising from the application of research findings,
  2. the high rate of recruitment of graduates from the Honours and PhD program into the industry, and
  3. the strong support for the professional training courses and conferences directed at meeting the industry’s specific training and specialist knowledge needs.

The core research partners are Murdoch University, Curtin University, University of Queensland, CSIRO Minerals and the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources WA (DMPR).

There are also 12 industry participants representing most of the larger mining companies in Australia.
