The Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism was established in 1997 to underpin the development of a dynamic, internationally competitive and sustainable tourism industry.

CRC Tourism’s mission is the development and management of intellectual property (IP) to deliver innovation to business, community and government, enhancing the environmental, economic and social sustainability of tourism. Murdoch University is one of 26 industry, government and university partners in the organisation. Research of the CRC Tourism focuses on four key areas of the tourism market:

  • conservation and environmental management
  • engineering, design and technology
  • policy, events and business management
  • IT and informatics

Murdoch has had 12 grants from the CRC Tourism covering a broad range of issues and the University has committed to continuing membership if the CRC rebid is successful for the period from 2004.
