Vets vie for American accreditation

THE Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences (DVBS) recently hosted a site visit by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

The visit to assess possible accreditation of the Veterinary degree by the AVMA went smoothly, according to the Acting Executive Dean of DVBS, Professor John Bolton.

"The AVMA team examined all aspects of the teaching program," he said. "This included an extensive inspection of all facilities and a number of meetings with staff, students and graduates.

"The Division was complimented on its veterinary program, particularly the team spirit, pride and sense of community amongst staff and students."

The AVMA team will present their report for consideration by the AVMA Council on Education at its meeting in April 2003.

Professor Bolton said the Council would then make a final decision on whether or not the Veterinary Program should be accredited.
