Nationalism viewed through British and Aboriginal eyes
Postlethwaite with the film crew. The journey of British actor Pete Postlethwaite through Aboriginal Australia from the eyes of a prominent politician (Pat Dodson) and musician (Archie Roach) is the focus of the film production component of a $62,000 fellowship offered to the Law School by the Louis V Johnson Foundation, a study of Australian nationalism and justice. The video production component of the fellowship, entitled Unfinished Business, covers the political journeys that the Indigenous leadership have been undertaking over the last two decades triggered by the current lethargy enveloping Aboriginal politics. Central in this is the concept of the New Agenda advocated by Mr Pat Dodson. The video follows the journey that British actor Pete Postlethwaite undertakes with Aboriginal singer Archie Roach through Aboriginal Australia. The fellowship is a study of Australian nationalism and justice from an indigenous perspective, and is a collaborative venture between Project coordinator and researcher Dr Tony Buti (School of Law) and Dr Martin Mhando (School of Media Communication and Culture). The film, which will be directed by Mhando, will be shot in Perth, Alice Springs, Broome and Fitzroy Crossing.
