Renewable Energy Centre wins State funding

The Murdoch-based Australian Co-operative Research Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE) has been awarded funding of $570,000 over three years to fit out and equip a new laboratory to be known as ACRELab.
The funding has been provided under the Department of Commerce and Trade's Centres of Excellence Programme.
ACRELab will become a component of the proposed Australian Sustainable Development Centre which is planned to be established at Enterprise Park, on the eastern side of the Murdoch campus.
The laboratory will underpin research and development programmes for ACRE -- established in 1996 to support a world competitive renewable energy industry through the provision of innovation, applied research and development and quality-assured demonstrations.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Commerce and Trade Hendy Cowan said a key requirement in commercialising new products and hybrid systems was their demonstration to industry and utilities in Australia and overseas and associated performance evaluation in a variety of circumstances and configurations.
It was intended that ACRELab would have the capability to test all types of renewable energy products to international benchmarks.
