Murdoch's Asia Research Centre (ARC) and the Murdoch Law School have entered into a joint venture with Melbourne University's Asian Law Centre to run an Indonesian Legal Visits Programme in 1998.
Perth law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques and the Australia-Indonesia Business Council are also associated with the programme.
The programme is funded by the Federal Attorney General's Department.
ARC Deputy Director Cisca Spencer said the ARC and the Asian Law Centre would be working with the Australian Embassy in Jakarta to select suitable participants for the visits, to be conducted in Perth and Melbourne three times a year.
"The aim of the visits is to increase understanding between the Indonesian and Australian legal communities about our respective legal systems," said Ms Spencer. "The programme is open to a variety of people in the legal field, from legislators and regulators to commercial and human rights lawyers, for example."
Ms Spencer said the programme was expected to strengthen the Centre's links with the non-academic community and to use the ARC's considerable network of contacts in Indonesia for the benefit of the legal community in Australia.
