Micromanipulation lab adds another string to the SABC's bow

Much respected scientist and former Murdoch academic Emeritus Professor Ray Wales was on hand to formally open the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre's new micromanipulation laboratory at Murdoch recently.
Professor Wales, pictured with Murdoch Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Studies Executive Dean Professor John Yovich (left), said he was honoured to be asked to preside over the installation of the $150,000 worth of equipment which, he said, was a major addition to the facilities at the SABC.
The micromanipulation equipment will be used to make genetically engineered animal parasites to study antibiotic resistance, and to analyse gene expression in plant cells.
SABC Director Professor Mike Jones said there was already interest in using the equipment from Fremantle Hospital and the Perth Zoo on a contract basis.
